At Unyasi, we would like to keep things as realistic as possible. Thus, a good place to start when creating your character would be to research lions and their behavior. Links for reference will be coming soon.
A year in Unyasi is equivalent to two months, starting with the wet season as of June 2009. In July, it will be the dry season, and so forth.
A pride is composed of a male, or more if there is a coalition, between five and six females, often related, and their young. There can be batchelor pairs and groups, which most often occurs amoungst males, but for the sake of play canoccur in females as well. However, the number cannot exceed four with both genders and females will more tha likely be picked up by a male at some point to form a small pride.
Rules by gender
Males can...
claim territory
claim lionesses
fight other lions and lionesses over territory and other issues, such as food or a mate
win and lose against both lions and lionesses
leave their home pride at the age of two
Males cannot...
claim outside cubs, since most likely if the cub is not theirs, they would kill them
stay in their home pride after two years
impregnate a lioness until he is four years old
Females can...
be claimed by a lion
win and lose against both genders
can fight off a lion, especially if there is a group of lionesses versus the one lion
have cubs at the age of three
adopt orphaned cubs
stay in their home pride
Females cannot...
claim land
claim lions
have cubs until the age of three
Cubs can...
be adopted by lionesses
be protected by members of their pride
escape an attack, under certain circumstances
Cubs cannot...
be adopted by lions
live on their own for long periods of time
have other cubs until the age of four for males and three for females
hunt and kill large prey
As well, we at Unyasi want our lions to be realistically colored. No pink lions, please. They can range from a light dirty gold to a very deep red-brown; look at pictures for reference! White lions will be kept to a minimum: they rarely survive in the wild to adulthood as a result of being more easily spotted by hyenas and other predators. The password is scavengers.
